This week we pick up where Ed had gotten an incoming from LinkedIn. And this guy was really anxious to speak to Ed so they talk and they are a perfect ICP for what we do.
They bought very fast then wanted to buy more for more of their people in key positions. A single deal turned into multiple very quickly.
We soon found out that there was a buying committee and we had to regroup – listen as Ed explains that shift.
Even though this deal turned into something different, they wanted some concessions early on, we wanted to win it because of the potential on the backend. Listen as Ed and Gloria discuss the strategy and reasoning behind that.
We also discuss there are more than one way to skin a cat and configure the deal so that you may not win it all on the front end, but with a tight land and expand strategy, you can still win.
Listen as Ed discusses how he closes deals without closing (he hasn’t “closed” in 24 years – how is that?)
Ed and Gloria also discuss how and why they had to do multiple cost models to make it work.
Ed and Gloria also discussed this article:
“First and foremost, differentiation is going to be imperative. It’s already hard enough to stand out and get noticed, and it’s about to get much more difficult as new companies emerge and investments and budgets balloon in the latter half of the year. Virtually all major companies are increasing budgets to pre-pandemic levels, but will delay those investments until the second half of the year. This will result in an increased intensity of competition that will drown out any undifferentiated players.
Technology will only take you so far, and it’s not going to be enough to survive the competition. Marketing is about people, including your customers, team, partners, investors and the broader community.
Understanding who your people are and how you can use their help to build a strong foundation and drive exponential growth is essential.
The explosion of tech companies and startups seeking to be the next big thing isn’t over yet. However, many of them are indistinguishable from each other and lack a compelling value proposition. Just one look at the websites of new and existing tech companies will reveal a proliferation of buzzwords and conceptual illustrations, leaving them all looking and sounding alike.”
The tech companies that succeed are those that embrace one of the fundamentals of effective marketing — positioning.
