My Journey from Top Sales Rep to Million-Dollar Entrepreneur

I started my first business at 28, leaving an incredible job as the #1 sales rep.. selling switching into large mainframe data centers. I did 32% of all sales for a $28 M AMEX-listed tech company. Despite the security and success, I felt an undeniable pull to create something of my own.

It haunted me.

One afternoon in the Spring, while using pay phones along the turnpike, outdoors, and actually drizzling, it was then that it hit me hard. Today was the day. When I decided to quit, it came from an idea I jotted down on a piece of paper while having breakfast alone at a diner.

I’ve been in 100’s enterprise data centers, including CIA, AT&T, IBM.. .

I was amazed how they had 5-10 mainframes, costing millions each, but used tables for the control ops. The kind your mother played cards on. Inspired by NASA’s control rooms when they launched rockets, I envisioned a modern, efficient solution for data centers, Command Centers.

However, I had no money to start.

  • I borrowed $10,000 from my dad, his only savings, and living in a tiny apartment in Florida.
  • My parents had divorced when I was younger, and my father’s financial situation was dire.
  • But he would do anything for me.

It haunted me every day and every evening. It taught me that a father’s love and dedication are second to none. I knew he would give his life for me if it ever came to that. I worked 18 hours a day for two years to pay him back.

From that $10,000, we raised almost half a million. And that’s when the story took off. By the time I was 30, I made my first million. My company grew quickly, reaching $10 million in 3.5 years and hitting $40 million.

This journey taught me lessons that have stayed with me, for the rest of my life. Perseverance and innovation are required, but they’re not enough to get you over the finish line. You have to be obsessed to succeed. You need a vision that drives you 24 hours every second.

Every entrepreneur faces common challenges: limited resources, financial risk, intense pressure to succeed….

Overcoming these obstacles is what transforms an idea into a thriving business. It’s about seeing opportunities where others see problems and having the courage to act on them. My story isn’t just about money. It’s more of the relentless pursuit of a dream, the willingness to risk all, and the guts to overcome any obstacle.

I want to inspire others to follow their passions, even when the path is beyond uncertain or dangerous. It scares the hell out of you. So, if you have a dream, a vision, or an idea, don’t wait. Take that leap!

Borrow if you must, and give it everything you’ve got.

The journey is intense, but the rewards—personal & professional—are worth every bit of effort.

And remember: “It’s not just about the destination, but your transformation into who you really are.”
